St Mary’s is the oldest school in the Diocese, established by lay people in 1849. The Ursuline Sisters arrived in 1888 and maintained a presence in the school until 2001. The school is now administered by a lay principal.

St Mary’s is situated in the ‘Catholic Block’ of town which includes the Cathedral, the Bishop’s House, the Catholic Chancery, the Parish Hall, the Ursuline Convent and the offices of the Catholic Schools Office.

St Mary’s has plenty of space for the students and has beautiful grounds with many large deciduous trees around the school. The Infants and primary sections of the school are separate.

St Mary’s has excellent facilities and playing fields across a side street. The school library is well appointed and spacious. There are new computer facilities available for the students.

Armidale is a vibrant town and is the centre of the New England Tableland. It enjoys a temperate climate and has 4 seasons in the year. The town has full services and hosts the University of New England. This gives Armidale a unique character and a diverse population.
